Who is Perihan Ata (1951 – Kayseri)She was born in 1951 in Pınarbaşı/Kayseri. She completed her high school education in Kayseri, and left after working at the Ministry of Finance for ten years. She was in various provinces of Anatolia due to her husband’s job. Her passion, which started with pattern studies in Sivas, evolved into painting at the Balıkesir State Fine Arts Workshop. Later, in 1996, she joined the painting studies at the Master Painter Özdemir Yemenicioğlu Workshop. She learned a lot from Master Painter Özdemir Yemenicioğlu; she continued her work in this workshop until 2006. In the meantime, she participated in many mixed and solo exhibitions. She still continues her work in Kayseri. She worked as an instructor in painting courses opened in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture and the Municipality between 2015 and 2020. The artist is a member of A.İ.A.P. UNESCO (International Plastic Arts Association). Some of the works that the artist participated in competitions were exhibited in the Antalya 3rd National Painting Festival, Anadolu University 50th Year Painting Competition, SESAN 1st Painting Competition and Trakya University Mail Art Painting Competition.Perihan ATA, who participated in many mixed exhibitions, festivals, biennials and international fairs, defines her understanding of art as follows; “Art is a phenomenon that exists and should exist in all of our lives. Art gives meaning to our lives and changes our perspective. All art is nothing but the reflection of instinct and imagination. Drawing and painting what is seen is not art. If the artist has been able to add his sincere feelings, sense of humor and soul to what he has drawn and painted, it is a work of art. At least that is what I think. An artist leaves a mark; his work should be unique and one of a kind, and only in this way can he leave a mark. My works are based on my observations in nature. However, I try to reflect on my canvas not what I see but what I feel.” About the Painter Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ümit Gezgin says the following in the Sanat Tasarım Newspaper: “Perihan ATA is an artist who evaluates color within the richness of form. The concepts of color and composition stand before us as important expansions of her pictorial reality. Aesthetic premise is always included in her pictorial perspective. In both her still lifes and other works, Perihan ATA knows very well that visual arts must be based on an aesthetic reality. Whatever ATA tells, she tells it aesthetically. The artist successfully accomplishes this.”
