Who is Hülya Demir? (1960- Istanbul)Hülya Demir graduated from Istanbul Technical University’s Faculty of Architecture in 1984 with a Master of Architecture degree. She began working as an architect at Ersen Gürsel Architecture Office during her student years until 1985. In 1985, she began her career at the Construction and Real Estate Group of Türkiye İş Bankası, where she continued as Deputy Manager. In 1994, she was appointed Project and Construction Management Group Manager for the İş Bankası Headquarters – İş Towers. From 2001 to 2018, Hülya Demir served as Deputy General Manager responsible for project and construction management at İş Real Estate Investment Partnership Inc., retiring in 2018.Art Perspective:During her architecture education, she worked with academic, artist, and painter Şadan Bezeyiş in the Basic Design and Plastic Arts Workshop, creating charcoal drawings/textures, collages, three-dimensional design, and artwork. During the same period, he worked at the sculptor Yavuz Görey Studio, using clay to create textures, models, and sculptures. In addition to his architectural practice, he worked in charcoal, pastel, watercolor, acrylic, and oil painting. Since 2021, he has continued his oil painting studies at the painter Hayrettin Sönmez Studio. He embraces creating picturesque works from nature within the Impressionist movement. He is guided by Albert Dürer’s words, “Art lies within nature; the artist is the one who can extract it from there.”Due to his special interest, he frequently travels domestically and internationally, absorbing not only his professional observations but also his impressions of nature from an artistic perspective, incorporating them into his paintings. He rationally applies the fundamental concepts of art—composition, aesthetics, pattern, color, light, and shadow—to fulfill their functions in architecture, while in his paintings, he freely and authentically conveys these concepts onto the canvas with emotion, excitement, depth, simplicity, and plainness. This interaction has been a supportive process for him between architecture and painting. From the beginning of his education, he has embraced the philosophy of creating designs that are environmentally harmonious and integrated with nature. His admiration for nature, and particularly its details, has led to the reflection of these feelings in his paintings. Through these observations, he aims to convey to the viewer the feelings and impressions evoked by the colors, light, and movements of the sky, sea, lake, stream, trees, flowers, and grasses that change with the seasons, through the use of color, brush, and spatula in his works. The desire to convey this excitement and emotion to his paintings and to the viewer, coupled with the interweaving of his art with spaces, is a key source of inspiration.
