Who is Baran Binay? (2000-Istanbul)He was born in Pendik, Istanbul, in 2000. He spent his childhood and youth in Ankara and continues to live in this city. In 2019, he began his artistic journey by beginning his undergraduate studies in the Department of Art Education at Gazi University’s Faculty of Education. The academic and artistic knowledge he acquired there formed the foundation of his painting language. He began his master’s degree at the same university in 2023 and continues his work.Artistic Perspective; In his paintings, the artist explores the disconnect between individuals’ inner worlds and the emotions they project to the outside world. He observes that people attempt to project a happier, more successful, or more peaceful image to the outside world by concealing the complex and often sorrowful emotions they carry within. This becomes a recurring theme in the artist’s work. The cold expressions on their faces and melancholic portraits are a reflection of this mask of false happiness that obscures reality. Baran Binay draws inspiration from the clown figure to reinforce his point. While the red nose, rosy cheeks, exaggerated facial expressions, and colorful costumes may at first glance evoke joy, they actually appear in the artist’s paintings as an ironic expression of sadness, melancholy, and the hidden inner loneliness of humanity. In this sense, the clown becomes a symbol of a “mask” in the artist’s works, inviting the viewer to question the invisible masks he wears in his own life.In his works, the artist highlights the dramatic tension created by these contradictory emotions while simultaneously attempting to reveal the fragility of the child’s soul and the intimacy of the individual’s inner world. The colorful inner universes hidden behind cold surfaces also mirror the viewer’s own life. Thus, Baran Binay’s paintings create not only an aesthetic narrative but also a space for profound intellectual inquiry.Exhibitions:Atölye 208 Printmaking Exhibition – Gallery Z (2024) İaaf Art Fair – Maya Art Gallery (2024) Dissimilar Group Exhibition – Brhd (2024) Akdora “Young Faces of the Republic” Group Exhibition (2024) Artnouva Art Fair – Gazı University (2024) Ziba Art Gallery New Year Exhibition (2023) International Mail Art Exhibition “Letters from the 100th Year” (2023) 100th Year A – Gazı University (2023) Gazı University Year-End Exhibition – Malik Aksel Exhibition Hall (2023) Artankara 9th International Contemporary Art Fair (2023) Ekofest Ecological Village Gökçeyurt Painting Competition (2022) Gazı University Year-End Painting Exhibition – Malik Aksel Exhibition Hall (2022) Workshop 208 Printmaking Exhibition – Gazı University (2022) May 19, 103 Artists Exhibition – Ankara Train Station (2022) Corridor Project – Youth of the Future Exhibition, Bulgaria (2022) Corridor Project – Youth of the Future Exhibition (2022) 4th International Bilkent Art Festival – Festival Print Workshop, Murat Aslan (2021)
