  Who is Dileda Girban?Born in 1981, Dileda Girban began her art education in the Painting Department of Eskişehir Anatolian Fine Arts High School and later graduated from the Department of Graphic Design at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University. Based in Istanbul, she has lived and continued her artistic practice at different periods in Geneva, Baku, and Prague.Girban’s paintings explore memory, belonging, personal history, the inner world, and the recurring question of “Where is home?”. The human figure is central to her practice, yet she approaches figures not as portraits of specific individuals, but as carriers of emotion and unseen personal stories.Vivid colour and strong pattern are distinctive elements of Girban’s visual language. This visual intensity often stands in contrast to the silence, solitude, and emotional emptiness within the work. The tension between colour and emotion has become a recurring element in her paintings.Fabric and clothing are also part of this language. While living in Prague, Girban developed a silk scarf and textile collection based on her own drawings and patterns. Today, this pattern practice returns to the canvas through the clothing worn by her figures, creating a connection between outward appearance and inner life.Girban continues her painting practice in her studio in Istanbul.
