The visual arts exhibition titled "Beyond the Visible: The Image of Women in Turkish and Japanese Art" was held at the Cumhuriyet Cultural Center in Ankara. Japan's Ambassador to Ankara, Masami Tamura, who attended the event, stated, "I hope that the dialogue between Turkish and Japanese art reminds us that women are the source of creativity and that art is a mirror of society."
The exhibition, organized in collaboration with the Japanese Music and Arts Association, the Turkish-Japanese Foundation, and the Japanese Culture Research and Solidarity Association, took place at the Cumhuriyet Cultural Center in Ankara. Japan's Ambassador to Ankara, Masami Tamura, Cumhuriyet Newspaper's Ankara Representative Sertaç Eş, and Cumhuriyet Newspaper columnist Mustafa Balbay also attended the exhibition.
‘WOMEN AS TRANSFORMING SUBJECTS’
Neslihan Noyan, President of the Japanese Music and Arts Association, stated that Turkish-Japanese friendship has a 102-year history, saying, “Today, this friendship continues to develop through cultural dialogue and artistic exchange. This exhibition aims to remind us that women are not only figures to be represented, but also subjects who create, transform, and tell their own stories.”
‘I AM LEARNING TURKISH, BUT SLOWLY’
Japan’s Ambassador to Ankara, Masami Tamura, began his speech by saying, “I am sorry that I am speaking English. ‘I am learning, but slowly.’ I will speak Turkish next year.” He stated that the exhibition, held on the occasion of International Women’s Day, would contribute to connecting the two countries under the theme of women. Tamura said, “I hope that the dialogue between Turkish and Japanese art will remind us that the source of creativity is women and that art is a mirror of society.”
‘WE ARE VERY PLEASED TO SEE OUR JAPANESE FRIENDS HERE’
Sertaç Eş, Ankara Representative of Cumhuriyet Newspaper, drew attention to the level reached in Turkish-Japanese relations and said, “We have a boutique hall, but very meaningful exhibitions are being held. On this occasion, we are very pleased to see our Japanese friends here.” Mustafa Balbay, a writer for Cumhuriyet Newspaper, said, “I have been to Japan twice and returned with very beautiful memories. It was full of very beautiful lessons. Hiroshima and the sakura season were also beautiful. We were very happy. We thank the Ambassador very much for his courtesy.”
