Who is Hüseyin Sartaş? (1956- December 20, 2024)
Hüseyin Sartaş was born in Ankara in 1956. He was the youngest of a family of seven children, an immigrant from Thessaloniki. He started primary school at the age of six. His talent was noticed by his teachers and directed him to painting. In the second grade of secondary school, he dropped out of school due to financial difficulties and started working as a body shop apprentice. Although he continued in this job and became a master, he never stopped painting.
Hüseyin Sartaş had never thought that he could make money by painting at first. He would give the paintings he made to his friends as gifts. Once, he gave one of his paintings to a customer representative working at the car repair service he worked at. Famous painter Yalçın Gökçebağ saw this painting by chance, liked it very much and met him. Later, they showed the 28 paintings Sartaş had made up to that day to art critic Önder Şenyapılı. Thus, Hüseyin Sartaş opened his first personal exhibition in Ankara in 1989. After this exhibition, he quit his bodywork and started painting full time and earning his living this way.
Hüseyin Sartaş generally prefers to depict rural landscapes, village life and children in his works. The naive painter, who has opened personal exhibitions and participated in mixed exhibitions in various cities of Turkey, has received many art awards. He also has works in the collection of the Ministry of Culture.
