Who is Tuğba Demirbaş? (1999-Zonguldak)
Tuğba Demirbaş was born in Zonguldak in 1999. She graduated from the Painting Department of the Faculty of Fine Arts at Bülent Ecevit University in 2025. She is an independent artist focused on expanding her expression by experimenting with various techniques and materials. Her work centers on the concepts of hysteria, passion, and freedom, questioning the extremes of human nature. At the core of her artistic practice are existential questions, the search for identity, and the internal conflicts created by individual experiences. Instead of directly representing reality, she develops a unique language of expression by distorting and deforming it. Diversifying contemporary art production with different materials and techniques, Tuğba Demirbaş continues to explore new forms of expression, both conceptually and formally, maintaining a disciplined and consistent artistic practice.
Artistic Perspective:
Art is one of the most powerful tools in an individual’s effort to understand themselves and the world around them. Regardless of the technique or method I use, I see art as a means of communication; This approach shapes my artistic production, which is nourished by my individual experiences, inner conflicts, and search for identity. Formally, I distort figures and recreate them, transforming them into exaggerated narratives – this process allows me to critically examine, in my art practice, the individual’s experiences of integrating, internalizing, and transforming an emotion or effect within their self on ontological and phenomenological levels. I reveal the dialectical tension between planned and unplanned experiences, redefining the epistemological understanding of freedom through a poetic rebellion against bodily and mental limitations. While positioning the loss of control as a trigger that ignites a feeling of liberation in the individual, I also interpret this state of freedom as a modernist dilemma that dissipates the illusion of the self’s wholeness. At the heart of this tension, I choose to appropriate marginalized feelings and evolve them into an artistic object of desire. I see the materials I use not as tools, but as living partners; by using mixed techniques, I enrich my expression by transcending traditional boundaries. Beyond the canvas, I create a layered language by bringing together paint, fabric, and even everyday objects – an approach that embodies my inner conflicts and questioning of identity.
