The Türkiye İş Bankası Museum of Painting and Sculpture is bringing art lovers together with its new temporary exhibition, "Side by Side." The exhibition will feature works by Melahat and Eşref Üren, and Eren and Bedri Rahmi Eyüboğlu. The exhibition, which will remain open until July 10, 2026, focuses on the work of women artists.
The new temporary exhibition, "Side by Side," at the Türkiye İş Bankası Museum of Painting and Sculpture will open to art lovers tomorrow.
According to a statement from the museum, the exhibition brings together works by Melahat and Eşref Üren, and Eren and Bedri Rahmi Eyüboğlu.
The exhibition, spread across two floors of the museum, will showcase works from the Türkiye İş Bankası Art Collection, as well as works from private collections, around various themes.
In addition to paintings, the exhibition will also feature letters, cartoons, poems, sketches, and documents. On the third floor of the museum, works by Melahat and Eşref Üren were exhibited under the curatorship of Dr. Ali Kayaalp, while on the second floor, works by Eren and Bedri Rahmi Eyüboğlu were exhibited under the curatorship of Ömer Faruk Şerifoğlu. "These two parallel exhibitions highlight a stronger focus on the work of women artists."
İş Sanat General Manager Zuhal Üreten, whose comments were included in the statement, stated that the Türkiye İş Bankası Painting and Sculpture Museum will celebrate its third anniversary with a new temporary exhibition. She continued:
"While our museum's first temporary exhibition, 'Painting of Istanbul,' opened in Antalya, and last year's exhibition, 'Tat ve Sanat,' met with art lovers in Ankara, our new exhibition, 'Side by Side,' is opening in Istanbul. In addition to works selected from the İş Bankası Art Collection, Dr. Faculty Member Ali Kayaalp and Ömer Faruk Şerifoğlu, who prepared the exhibition selections with the generous cooperation of the Eyüboğlu Family and İmren Erşen collections, worked with Timuçin Unan on the design of the exhibition and the exhibition book, which will be published in the coming months. I extend my gratitude to everyone who contributed to our exhibition, especially the hardworking team of our museum."
Regarding the "Side by Side" exhibition, Üreten said, "In these two parallel exhibitions, which offer the opportunity to view the works of Melahat and Eşref Üren, and Eren and Bedri Rahmi Eyüboğlu, within the framework of 'sharing art and life with its beauties and challenges,' a stronger focus on the work of women artists is evident. I hope this focus will illuminate the path of women's work in art and life."
Üreten also informed that works by prominent female representatives of Turkish art, such as Füreya Koral, Mihri Hanım, Aliye Berger, Azade Köker, and Semiha Berksoy, were recently added to the Türkiye İş Bankası Art Collection. "These works can also be viewed in our museum's permanent exhibition," she said. "We invite all art lovers to our museum in Beyoğlu to see this valuable collection and our exhibitions, and to participate in our learning programs."
The exhibition will be open until July 10, 2026.
Curator Ali Kayaalp, commenting on the exhibition featuring works by Melahat and Eşref Üren, said, "We wanted to reflect the dynamics, tensions, harmony, joy, and resentment of an artist couple's relationship to art lovers, without marginalizing Eşref Üren's presence, but striving to give Melahat Üren equal space."
Ömer Faruk Şerifoğlu, who curated the Eyüboğlu exhibition on the museum's second floor, commented:
"Bedri Rahmi Eyüboğlu, with his life and works, became a myth that elevated Turkish art to a universal dimension. Eren Eyüboğlu, on the other hand, has earned a rightful place in the Turkish art scene with his universal artistic personality and wealth of knowledge. In this exhibition, we have attempted to powerfully showcase the legacy of this artist couple, whose artistic journeys span over half a century, drawing inspiration from the Anatolian springs, alongside their folklore, geography, and cultural riches."
The exhibition, which will be open to visitors free of charge during the Istanbul Cultural Road Festival, will welcome art lovers until July 10, 2026.
