The “Talking Pictures” exhibition, which includes portraits of important characters from the worlds of literature, theater and cinema and the voice-overs accompanying these portraits, will meet art lovers at the Atatürk Cultural Center (AKM) on December 13.
The exhibition, prepared by painter Ebru Ceylan, will bid farewell to the audience in its 10th year with the title “Talking Pictures: Farewell of 10 Years.”
Focusing on the lives of artists such as Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar, Aşık Veysel, Bedri Rahmi Eyüboğlu, Cahit Sıtkı Tarancı, Pir Sultan Abdal, Yunus Emre and Ferhan Şensoy, the exhibition features stories and poems as well as the artists’ biographies.
Ceylan explained the process of the exhibition, its content and future plans to AA correspondent.
– “I went through literary and theater artists because I believe they change society”
Ceylan, who stated that he had two purposes while creating the exhibition, said, “First, as an artist, I believe that people with different ideas and thoughts are beneficial to society and change it, so it would be an example of this. I am an art economist in addition to being a painter. Naturally, I really wanted to create a multidisciplinary project. Talking paintings are actually a blend of the two.”
Ceylan pointed out that people with different ideas and thoughts came together in the exhibition and said, “I went through literary and theater artists partly because of my own curiosity and partly because I believe they change society. Since theater artists also work on a text and a story, they had a binding effect on each other. The starting point was formed by the coming together of such different thoughts.”
– “A beautiful area of interaction and experience”
Ceylan, who stated that he also writes stories while painting, noted the following:
“I was entering a serious research process while writing these stories. You have to look at everything objectively because you are doing an archive study. You may not agree with him or his art may not seem familiar to you, but he is an important person for his time. Naturally, you need to approach him from the same place and fairly as you would approach a loved one.”
Ceylan pointed out that the exhibition had a multidisciplinary aspect in terms of its content and said that it offered an important area of interaction and experience for the audience.
- “These stories will be theater”
Ceylan, who stated that they have presented the exhibition to the audience with four themes so far, said, “This farewell exhibition is actually an exhibition where we bid farewell to ‘Talking Pictures’. It has told its story and ideas in multiple ways over the years. I think it is the right time to say goodbye to the tenth year. We had four themes so far, but this exhibition tells the story of people we should not forget in total. This time, I have prepared a special series that goes all the way to Ferhan Şensoy, Muhsin Ertuğrul, Cahide Sonku, Yıldız Müşfik Kenter, Semiha Berksoy and even Hacivat and Karagöz.”
Ceylan stated that those who want to reach the stories of “Talking Pictures” can access the albums from music applications and said, “We are also preparing the infrastructure for turning the exhibition into a book and maybe even accessing the catalogs in digital media after the exhibition is over. These stories will become theater in the new year. They will continue their lives by changing their mediums. I will be constantly announcing this. Viewers will be able to reach the works in digital media in the first months after the exhibition.”
The exhibition can be visited at AKM until December 19.
