The light of the Republic is reborn at Konak Pier through the language of art.
Konak Pier, one of Izmir's leading cultural and cultural venues, is hosting a meaningful event on November 10th to commemorate Atatürk through the values he contributed to art and culture. Curated by art writer İbrahim Karaoğlu and coordinating with Dr. Zeki Hozer, the exhibition, "Sun of the Republic," features works by painter Süleyman Karakul.
In this exhibition, Süleyman Karakul reinterprets Atatürk and the Republic in his unique style. His canvases portray a Turkey as a symbol of rebirth and enlightenment, rather than the darkness of war. Layered colors reflect the land, labor, and hopes of Anatolia. Figures of children, kites, and hardworking hands symbolize the Republic's light reaching into the future.
In Karakul's paintings, Atatürk: He comes to life as a leader who integrates with his people and guides their dreams, hopes, and efforts. This approach resurfaces Atatürk as a symbol of a vision of civilization.
The "Sun of the Republic" exhibition will open to the public on November 10th and will be open to art lovers daily until December 10th at Konak Pier.
Who is Süleyman Karakul? (1952-Sivas)
Born in 1952 in the village of E. Hüyük, Şarkışla, Sivas, Süleyman Karakul graduated from the Painting Department of the Gazi Education Institute in 1974. He completed his undergraduate studies in the Graphic Arts Department of the Faculty of Education at Gazi University in 1986. After many years as an art teacher, the artist retired in 2001 and also worked in advertising graphics, book and magazine cover designs, and caricature.
The artist has participated in numerous group exhibitions and has held 56 (fifty-six) solo exhibitions. He received the 68’liler FOUNDATION 30th Anniversary Events Painting Labor Award, the SAKÜDER 2015 Special Art Award, the Turkish Pharmacists Association 60th Anniversary Jury Special Award, and the 3rd Prize in the Machinery Specialized Organized Industrial Zone “100th Anniversary of the Republic” Painting Competition. The artist, whose works are in public and private collections, currently continues to work in his own workshop in Ankara.
