He continues his work in his studio in Istanbul.Art Perspective; Artist/Academic Nuri Özçelik explores the city and its arguments in his works. Generally, the artist, drawing on arguments derived from his environmental observations and travels, arrives at interpretations within the expressionist art discipline and presents buildings as a portrait of the city. Buildings, the memory of the city, help us interpret numerous details such as culture, motifs, and so on. They record, accumulate, and present. They are the mute witnesses of the city… His works focus primarily on buildings and their appearances. The windows, some old and some new, the shutters, some open, some closed, some half-closed, the doors of different colors and models, the small, large, crooked antennas that look to the right and some to the left, the rusted water pipes that bend or straighten, the balconies, small and large, the staircases on the balconies, the bicycles, the buckets, the hanging laundry, the patterns of the laundry, the differences in these patterns, all reveal the identity of the building as a unit of the city and its presence within it, its relationship with other buildings, and the inhabitants of that floor. Objects that define an individual’s level of experience have become small units within the works’ constructs. These unique constructs of urban imagery are presented in the works. Here, engaging with the striking face of the image, the artist presents fragments of life to both the viewer and himself through images captured within, creating works that evoke the multilingual and multifunctional nature of painting on a plane between what is seen and what is formed in the mind.
