Who is Hüseyin Baran (1978 – Bursa):Hüseyin Baran is a graphic artist and associate professor specializing in both digital and traditional art, computer-aided design, 3D modeling, and spatial design based on virtual reality. He was born in Bursa in 1978. He completed his undergraduate studies at Anadolu University, Faculty of Fine Arts Education, and received his master’s and Proficiency in Art (PhD-equivalent) degrees from Hacettepe University, Department of Graphic Arts. His academic work focuses on the transformative effects of digital technologies on visual communication, as well as the integration of traditional techniques with these technologies. In his artistic practice, Baran blends traditional graphic techniques with digital environments. In recent years, his work has focused on the intersection of virtual reality, spatial digital environments, and figurative design. These productions often take the form of character and vehicle designs, spatial compositions, prototypes, VR animations, and abstract-realistic oil paintings grounded in graphic aesthetics. The Alter Cubes oil painting series is built on the following manifesto: “The Alter Cubes series seeks natural motion across the cubic surfaces of urban life. The structures humans build one by one gradually transform into a complex texture, resulting in an installation that forms spontaneously. This colorful sequence, shaped by seemingly confined living spaces coming together, assumes that individual experiences—though independently constructed—become part of a greater existence within the three-dimensional universe.” Throughout his academic career, Baran has conducted numerous workshops, published articles, and taken part in TÜBİTAK- and university-funded projects focused on digital creativity, also serving as principal investigator on several of them. His VR animations were featured in a Meta interview, and he has produced collaborative, multidisciplinary works with many artists brought together in virtual environments on an international scale. For nearly 15 years, he has been teaching practice-based design courses at the university, conducting hands-on workshops that bring together conceptual depth and digital creativity in both traditional and technology-based design fields.
