Who is Cihan Çelik? (1986-Ankara)Cihan Çelik, originally from Trabzon, was born in Ankara in 1986. His encounter with art began in childhood when he started painting, a passion that has shaped every stage of his life. His academic journey was crowned with his graduation from the Graphic Design Department of Başkent University’s Faculty of Fine Arts, Design, and Architecture in 2010. Subsequently, in 2014, he completed his master’s degree with a thesis in the Painting Department of Gazi University’s Institute of Fine Arts, further strengthening his artistic and theoretical foundation.Çelik stepped into the art world through graffiti, where he discovered typography, an area that became the cornerstone of his creative universe. Embracing typography not merely as a tool but as the essence of his art, this graphic designer now focuses on typography-based painting. In his works, typography functions almost as a language of expression; on his journey toward contemporary art, he blends this discipline with digital and painterly layers to create unique serial works. Traces of typography are evident everywhere in his art, from murals to book illustrations. Additionally, he has appeared on television programs, authored articles on street art and typography, and shared his experiences in various workshops. In his professional life, Cihan Çelik serves as an art director in promotional activities within the defense industry, extending his artistic vision into a different dimension. Meanwhile, continuing his work in his own studio, he aims to bring both personal and societal stories to audiences through paintings centered on typography. Having held two solo exhibitions and participated in numerous group shows, Çelik views his art as an ever-evolving space of exploration that continually pushes boundaries.
