Painter Talha Kılıç has presented his solo exhibition, titled "Tragedies" (Tragedyalar)—comprising 13 works created using the oil painting technique—to art lovers at the SANKO Art Gallery.

In his opening speech, Kılıç stated that he interprets the tradition of figurative painting through a contemporary lens, treating human figures, nature, animals, and everyday objects as elements of a symbolic narrative.

Inviting the viewer to engage in a creative process rooted in personal recollection—centered on concepts such as memory, identity, transformation, and fragility—Kılıç said, "In my paintings, where I merge reality with the imaginary, I construct atmospheres that are at times fairytale-like and at others uncanny."

Emphasizing his adoption of an expressionist approach to color, Kılıç noted that he combines bright, contrasting colors with layered paint application, distinct brushstrokes, and distorted figures.

Highlighting that figures resembling jesters, birds, moon and sun forms, mountains, fruits, and symbolic objects stand out as recurring motifs in his work, Kılıç summarized his artistic philosophy: "I draw inspiration from Neo-Expressionism, Symbolist painting, and contemporary figurative painting. My aim is to develop a personal visual language that is constantly evolving."

Acting Provincial Director of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Aykanat, SANKO Park Shopping Mall General Manager Sait Gizir, painter Özer Çağlar, and SANKO Art Gallery Executive Board Vice Chairman Cengiz Halil Çiçek also shared their assessments of Kılıç’s work during their speeches. Talha Kılıç was born in 2000 in the Şehitkamil district of Gaziantep. He completed his undergraduate studies in the Department of Graphic Design at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Hatay Mustafa Kemal University. He is currently pursuing his academic studies at the master's level at the Gaziantep University Institute of Social Sciences.

Kılıç’s exhibition will be open to visitors until October 9, 2026.
