His Life and Educational Journey:
Mustafa Altıntaş was born on June 15, 1946, in Akşehir, Turkey. He began his art education at the Gazi Education Institute’s Painting Department in Ankara; the fundamental painting knowledge he gained there formed the first steps of his disciplined production approach.
In 1970, he won a scholarship from the French government and went to Paris, where he participated in studio studies at the Cité Internationale des Arts. He then enrolled in the Paris Academy of Fine Arts (E.N.S.B.A.). Here, he received training in painting and monumental painting, particularly in the studios of masters such as Gustave Singier and Jean Bertholle. Between 1977 and 1980, he pursued postgraduate studies at the Sorbonne University’s Faculty of Cinematographic Arts. Here, he enriched his visual understanding by working with figures such as Jean Mitry, Eric Rohmer, Jean Rouch, and Michel Ciment; during this period, he also produced documentaries and experimental films, which were screened at various international festivals.
Exhibitions and International Recognition;
From 1970 onwards, Altıntaş’s works have been featured in international biennials, festivals, and solo and group exhibitions in France and various European countries. His experience in cinema and visual arts during his education allowed him to engage in dialogue with non-painting mediums. His exhibition “Cosmos,” held at the Sanko Art Gallery, received widespread attention in Turkey and presented a striking view of the artist’s nature-themed artistic approach.
Artistic Perspective;
In Mustafa Altıntaş's art, themes, style, and perspective emerge intrinsically linked. His main characteristics are:
• Nature and space: In his works, he interprets nature, space, and human experience by combining abstract and figurative elements. • Use of color and light: The richness of the color palette, the pictorial effect of light, and the structure based on compositional discipline offer the viewer both a visual and emotional experience. • Interdisciplinary approach: By using different media such as painting, printmaking, sculpture, and film together, he makes art a multi-dimensional and intellectual field. • Artistic understanding: According to Altıntaş, art is not only the depiction of objects, but also a visual field of thought that evokes an emotional and cognitive effect in the viewer. This approach is consistently observed in his paintings, prints, and sculptures. • Relationship between space and time: By reflecting the traces of space and time in his works, the artist offers the viewer not only a visual experience but also an intellectual journey. This holistic approach makes Mustafa Altıntaş stand out not only as a painter, but also as a multifaceted visual thinker and an interdisciplinary representative of contemporary art.
