Who is Murat Ağçiçek? (1965-Refahiye)
He was born in Refahiye in 1965. He graduated from Marmara University Atatürk Faculty of Education, Department of Painting Education in 1988. He completed his Master’s Degree in Mimar Sinan University, Institute of Social Sciences, Department of Painting in 1991.
He worked as an art teacher in MEB Primary and Secondary Education institutions between 1994-2003. In 2003, he was appointed as a lecturer in the Department of Fine Arts Education, Department of Painting Education, Faculty of Education, Ondokuz Mayıs University. He still continues his duty in the same institution.
The artist, who has opened 23 personal painting exhibitions, has participated in many national and international competitive and mixed exhibitions.
Art Perspective;
In my figurative paintings with social content, I place the individual in the environment he lives in or in the places I dream of. In my single and multiple figure arrangements, people are standing or squatting next to the wall. You can observe that people we think are together are actually living with their own loneliness. The metaphor of the “dog” figure, which is a symbol for people experiencing loneliness to face their own humanity and to meet their need for friends and companionship, and which watches and witnesses the space, becomes a part of my paintings.
I want to establish a bridge of communication with today’s people by using grape leaves and vines on the wall edge and symbols belonging to Anatolian civilizations on its surface. In my Multiple Compositions, we can observe the stripes containing past experiences and longings on a horizontal strip on the upper part of the wall surface behind the figures.
I want to give psychological views of people’s body languages in my portraits. Figures do not want to communicate with people watching them from outside. They become parts of their own spaces.
Apart from my figure-heavy paintings; various objects that we have consumed and thrown away, dried flowers, fruits that we have given up using, are the subjects of my paintings. Their dried and exhausted lives find a new life through my paintings. In addition, landscape views are the subjects of my paintings.
