One of Mersin's famous painters, Sayım Koç, aims to convey this culture to future generations through art while depicting the Yoruk lifestyle, traditions and natural beauties in his 6th personal exhibition at the MTSO Art Gallery. Koç, who also highlights Mersin's natural landscapes, has 40 works in his exhibition. Among the works are two works by the artist's 16-year-old grandson.

The exhibition opening was attended by MTSO Board of Directors Chairman Hakan Sefa Çakır, Assembly Chairman Hamit İzol and Toroslar Mayor Abdurrahman Yıldız, as well as MTSO Education and Development Foundation Chairman İsmail Yavuz Özgüven, MTSO Former Assembly Chairman Faik Burakgazi, Chamber Assembly Members and many guests.

Koç; “I opened my first personal exhibition at the MTSO Art Gallery”
Speaking at the exhibition opening, Painter Sayım Koç said that he started his career as an art teacher in primary schools in the 90s and that he shaped his art life with the education he received at İlhan Çevik’s Painting Workshop at MTSO. Stating that he opened his first personal exhibition at the MTSO Art Gallery, Koç said, “My passion for painting dates back to my childhood. Back then, I loved visiting art galleries and watching exhibitions. I would draw portraits of my teachers in class. This passion continued until it became a way of life.”

Artist Koç, who stated that he is from Mersin and that he chose the lifestyle of the Central Taurus Mountains as a theme and aimed to pass this culture on to future generations through art, said, “Painting is not just an art for me. I also see it as a method for passing on cultural heritage to future generations.” Koç, who also mentioned that he prefers to paint especially in the winter months, noted that he works in agriculture in the summer.
The artist added that he aims to open exhibitions in the upcoming period and said that he will continue to raise awareness with his works.

The exhibition, which will be open until January 17, can be visited between 08.30-18.00 on weekdays and 10.00-17.00 on Saturdays.
