An exhibition has opened showcasing paintings by Syrian artist Marwan Kassab-Bachi. The exhibition "Marwan: A Soul in Exile" at Christie's in London has attracted considerable attention.

Christie's in London has selected Syrian-born artist Marwan Kassab-Bachi (1934–2016) for its third annual summer exhibition.

Focusing on the artist's life and artistic journey, "Marwan: A Soul in Exile" comprises more than 150 works borrowed from distinguished institutions and private collections in Europe and the Middle East.

Marwan's profoundly expressive portraits and works exploring exile, identity, and the human condition have been highly sought after in the West.

The exhibition featured works that sold for tens of thousands of dollars, including the 1973 painting "Im Bett II." In 2024, a Marwan painting sold for over $400,000.

Dr. Ridha Moumni commented:

"We are honored to host the third Arab Art Exhibition at Christie's London this summer, dedicated to the unique vision of Marwan Kassab-Bachi.

Marwan was a profoundly original artist whose profoundly moving and distinctive works, shaped by his Syrian heritage and his artistic journey in Germany, redefined portraiture as a space for psychological exploration and aesthetic experimentation.

Widely recognized as one of the most important Arab artists, Marwan reinvented portraiture through a meditative and introspective practice and established himself as a leading artist on the contemporary German art scene.

We are privileged to present this retrospective in London, bringing together exceptional loans from important public and private collections in Europe and the Middle East, and to make these masterpieces accessible to those in London throughout the summer."
