Inspiration from Campanella's "Civitas Solis"
Taking its name from Campanella's famous 17th-century work, "Civitas Solis" (Land of the Sun), the exhibition depicts the sea, sails, the horizon, and distant islands in Tayfun Önel's paintings, depicting them in expansive color palettes. The artist, centered in his works, treats the image of the sun not only as a source of light but also as a metaphorical and philosophical force.
"I Depicted Hope in Every Work"
Tayfun Önel, whose 26 oil and acrylic works are featured in the exhibition, said the following in his opening speech:
"I'm generally known as a blue painter. Seas, boats, and blue skies are my path. For this exhibition, at the suggestion of my curator, Nevin Yalçın Beldan, we named it 'Land of the Sun.' I depict a utopia; people's hopes, dreams, and longing for sunny days... No matter how pessimistic they may be, there's always a desire to travel to that sunny land. I tried to support this with my colors and brushes."
Exhibition Draws Huge Attention
The exhibition, which attracted a great deal of attention from visitors, was highly acclaimed in the Bodrum art scene. Önel, who has lived in Bodrum for many years, expressed his devotion to Bodrum, saying, "Holding an exhibition at the Ottoman Shipyard every year has become a tradition for me. Bodrum is my second home."
