The "Aegean Air" exhibition, compiled from the Türkiye İş Bankası Artworks Collection, was presented to art lovers in Edremit as part of the Anatolian Exhibitions. The exhibition welcomed over a thousand visitors over two days.
The final stop of the Anatolian Exhibitions project, conducted by the Türkiye İş Bankası Painting and Sculpture Museum, was the Edremit district of Balıkesir. Opened at the Türkiye İş Bankası Edremit Branch on November 22-23, the "Aegean Air" exhibition attracted considerable attention from art lovers over two days. Over a thousand people visited the exhibition in a short time.
The nature and people of the Aegean region, a significant source of inspiration in Turkish painting, formed the main focus of the exhibition. Olive groves, the sea, fishermen, and scenes from daily Aegean life were presented to the audience through the works in the selection. The exhibition featured works by prominent figures in Turkish painting, including Fahrettin Arkunlar, İbrahim Çallı, Elif Naci, Veysel Günay, Eşref Üren, Nuri Abaç, Agop Arad, Ömer Faruk Taner, Gönül Göle, Turan Erol, Fikret Mualla, and Orhan Peker. Art lovers had the opportunity to experience the tranquil atmosphere of the Aegean and the region's cultural fabric firsthand through these works.
Throughout the exhibition, Prof. Dr. Gül İrepoğlu, Founding Curator of the Türkiye İş Bankası Painting and Sculpture Museum, provided visitors with information about the works and the artists. The architectural and historical significance of the Edremit Branch building, where the exhibition was held, was also discussed. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Y. Doğan Çetinkaya gave a presentation on the historic building, a distinguished example of early Republican architecture designed by architect Giulio Mongeri. Çetinkaya, accompanied by photographs, explained the building's construction process and its early years to visitors.
The exhibition included not only adults but also children. Art workshops were held for children throughout the event, providing younger participants with a deeper understanding of art.
The Anatolian Exhibitions, organized as part of the learning programs of the Türkiye İş Bankası Painting and Sculpture Museum, will continue in various cities across Turkey with different themes. The project aims to contribute to the direct and on-site sharing of cultural heritage by bringing works of art to the lands where they originated and were nurtured.
