CONTEMPORARY TURKISH PAINTERS

HÜSEYİN ŞAHBUDAK

Who is Hüseyin Şahbudak?

Hüseyin Şahbudak, known for his use of patterns, horses, women and kangal dog forms in his paintings, was born in Divriği in 1964. He graduated from Gazi University, Gazi Faculty of Education, Department of Painting in 1985. In 1990, he completed his master’s degree at Hacettepe University, Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Painting. Şahbudak, who participates in various group and group exhibitions in addition to his personal events, continues his works in his private workshop in Ankara.
Şahbudak, whose pattern studies are decisive in his paintings, occasionally presents his unique figures to the audience with symbols of Anatolian culture. According to Şahbudak, pattern has a dominant role in painting and serves the most important function in what they want to express.
Stating that he has a special interest in horses, which he defines as elegant and aesthetic animals, Şahbudak says that horses have a special place for him. Evaluating painting as color, fiction and harmony, Şahbudak says, “Painting is a balance. It is an atmosphere. It is the relationship between the empty and the full. It is a philosophy.”

Şahbudak noted that the horses in his works sometimes put their heads into the feed bag, carry saddlebags decorated with local motifs on their backs, and often carry optical illusions, and added: "In painting, subject choices are generally shaped in line with the personal preferences of the artist. Like Zeus disguised as a swan in Greek mythology." "In my paintings, the horse refers to a human image that it hides within itself. This is why it looks 'warm' to the viewer, in addition to the compassion that the horse represents, beyond this representation. The horse here is a figure," he says.
Let's listen to Şahbudak, who says, "I combine warm colors with cold colors, albeit a little. I use acrylic and oil painting techniques on canvas":
"I hide abstractions within concrete data. I paint by creating new postures by adding my views and thoughts to the postures of animals. I interpret them in my own world of perception. As if running, standing or thinking. I draw my paintings close to children's paintings. I have come a long way in this endeavor.
Sometimes I painted my paintings in serenity, sometimes in rebellion, sometimes in stagnation, and sometimes in anger. I reflected that people cannot become human. I have always tried to highlight light, love, beauty and humanity. I handled and processed the assets as a whole. "I tried to explain internal, external, mental and cerebral thoughts."
