Art Persfektive;
Hatice Çevik; At the heart of my work lies a quest to redefine the boundaries of art within a contemporary perspective, using traditional materials. The female portraits and figures I render on fabric with oil paint are a concrete expression of this philosophy. The historical and cultural roots of fabric add depth to my works, while its combination with modern female figures initiates a timeless dialogue. This is an attempt to unite the legacy of the past with the dynamic spirit of the present.
In my artistic expression, I particularly focus on the depth and expression of women’s eyes. However, these gazes are not intended to force a specific meaning or emotion, but rather serve as invitations to open space for the viewer’s inner world and interpretations. Each portrait establishes a silent communication with the viewer, paving the way for diverse perceptions shaped by personal experiences.
The process of applying oil paint to fabric requires meticulous attention in itself. Unlike canvas, the irreversible nature of fabric emphasizes the finality of each brushstroke. This meticulous process positions contemporary femininities, embodied on a traditional surface, as a field of artistic exploration and expression.
