About Almut Wegner and the "Root and Cosmos" Exhibition
German artist Almut Wegner is a contemporary artist with expressionist influences, working in diverse disciplines such as painting, performance art, video art, and ceramics. Since the 1990s, during her artistic career in Cappadocia, she has developed a unique aesthetic language informed by nature, architectural texture, and local culture.
Themes such as roosters, trees, the cosmos, earthquakes, and war are particularly prominent in Wegner's works. Through his performative actions and interdisciplinary production, he offers the viewer both an intellectual and aesthetic experience.
The "Root and Cosmos" exhibition presents the beauty, traumas, and human experiences shaped by the artist's existential and collective memory, connecting them to the universe. The works in the exhibition reinterpret the concepts of body, time, and space through performative action and material interaction, while Cappadocia's unique geographical texture stands out as a carrier of themes of memory, identity, and transformation.
Each root symbolizes a person's connection to their past and belonging, while each star and cosmos figure symbolizes a door opening to the unknown. The exhibition invites the viewer on a journey from their roots to the universe, from individual experience to collective existence. Wegner's works expand the sensory and intellectual boundaries of contemporary art, offering the viewer a unique experience.
