Galeri Hamam Sanat, where the bathhouse building of Dramalılar Mansion was restored and transformed into an art gallery, aims to present itself to art lovers of Izmir with ambitious exhibitions.
The first exhibition of the new center, “Small Works, Big Signatures”, draws attention with works selected from the Lütfiye & Altan Altın Family Collection. This exhibition, consisting of previously unexhibited small-format works and pattern studies of great names in Turkish painting history such as Abidin Dino, Bedri Rahmi Eyüboğlu, Fikret Mualla, can be visited until February 15, 2025.
Mayor Ömer Eşki: “Art is a city’s legacy to the future”
Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki, drawing attention to the importance of art in transforming a society, said: “Galeri Hamam Sanat will not only be an exhibition area, but also a meeting point that reinforces Bornova’s culture and art identity. We are proud to bring this historical structure to art. With the exhibition that opened here today, we are bringing together the great masters of Turkish painting history with the people of İzmir. Art is one of the most valuable legacies a city leaves to the future, and as Bornova, we will continue to contribute to this legacy.”
Speaking at the opening of the exhibition, Altan Altın stated that they were happy to have their unique collections exhibited in such a special venue, and said, “We created this collection with great care together with my dear wife Lütfiye Altın. We believe that works should not remain hidden in just one house. We are very pleased that Bornova Municipality has brought this valuable venue to the art world.”
Bornova Municipality Museum Director Şükrü Koçak stated that Mayor Ömer Eşki’s support for culture and art gave life to this project. Koçak said, “Galeri Hamam Sanat has become not only an art gallery but also a socializing area by reviving a historical place. This place, which carries Bornova’s Levantine past to the present, will bring people together today as it did in the past.”
