The ‘Franz Kafka 1883 – 1924’ exhibition, prepared on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the death of Franz Kafka, one of the important names in world literature, opened at the Beyoğlu Municipality 6th Circle Art Gallery.
The “Franz Kafka 1883 – 1924” Illustration Exhibition, organized by the Consulate General of the Czech Republic in Istanbul, met with art lovers hosted by the Beyoğlu Municipality. The exhibition, organized for the first time in Turkey on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Franz Kafka’s death, opened at the 6th Circle Art Gallery. The exhibition featured 20 black and white illustrations by artist Renáta Fučíková, which take art lovers back to the period when Franz Kafka lived, revealing his world of inspiration, imagination and “Kafkaesque” atmosphere. The exhibition, which tells the story of Franz Kafka’s life and untimely death, can be visited until November 30.
“WE ARE PROUD TO BRING THE DEEP WORLD KAFKA OPENED TO BEYOĞLU”
Speaking at the opening of the exhibition, Beyoğlu Mayor İnan Güney said, “There are very few writers who describe the loneliness, alienation and powerlessness of the individual within society and the system as powerfully as Franz Kafka. His power of observation and ability to describe, his handling of human conditions on a universal level still inspire admiration today. We all find a piece of ourselves in his works. Kafka’s works are not only the heritage of the Czech Republic but also of the entire world. These works not only question our literary understanding of management and our relationship with society. For example, Kafka’s critique of bureaucracy is quite instructive for us managers. The narrative of people lost in bureaucratic labyrinths forces us to establish better systems. Kafka’s sharp observations will definitely take humanity even further if not only literature lovers but also administrators benefit from them. It has been a source of pride for us to bring this profound world opened by Kafka, a world writer and thinker, to Beyoğlu with this exhibition. I believe that in these days when the world is increasingly fragmented, polarized and violence is escalating, it is much more important for humanity to come together on common universal values. I wish you enjoyable and questioning moments on this journey you will take in Kafka’s world.”
“KAFKA’S LEGACY IS VERY IMPRESSIVE”
Czech Consul General in Istanbul Olga Hajflerova said, “This traditional exhibition may seem less entertaining compared to our previous events, but I believe it can offer you new information, inspiration and a period of thought about the King of France and his life. We have prepared this exhibition to meet the strong demand and interest in Kafka that we encounter almost every day in Turkey. Kafka’s legacy is very impressive. People abroad admire Kafka even more than the people in his own country. Franz Kafka’s works are not simple or light, but very rich and deep, yet they present difficult existential issues. That’s why I am grateful that we have the opportunity to organize this exhibition here, in this beautiful modern hall filled with light, air and hope.”
