Art Perfective;
The very reason memory exists is the past tense.
Fevzi Karakoç never detaches himself from color. Yet when one looks closely at paintings that seem almost washed in color, it becomes clear that only a few hues actually find a place on the surface.
And still, in some canvases, even with such limited chromatic presence, one can trace the marks of a flawless storm.
Even if you remove the figures—or the figure-like forms—the ground continues to ripple, ready to boil and erupt like a mass of molten lava.
Especially in the works that reflect different shades of gray or black, one senses a moment of formation, or of transformation.
The inner space of the canvas, swept by wind, generates an unceasing energy propelled by a source we cannot name…
At times, the horses are so swift that there is hardly a moment left for the traces of their own bodies to fade behind them.
The horses photographed by Eadweard Muybridge, galloping in full stride, were unaware that they would one day serve an art form yet to be born—cinema; Yet those horses continue to run across the screen even today.
Who can know—perhaps Karakoç’s horses, moving from canvas to canvas in a Muybridge-like sequence, will one day continue their gallop across the terrain of another art form.
No one can tell. But this vision I imagine feels far more tangible than any fantasy that might attempt to fasten wings onto horses.
