Who is Erol Pelioğlu? (1965-Ankara)

Erol Pelioğlu was born in Ankara in 1965. He completed his primary education at Müjde College. He completed his middle and high school education at Ankara Atatürk High School in 1984. He graduated from Anadolu University, Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Department of Economics in 1989. He continued his business life in the private sector for many years. His interest in painting continued throughout his education and business life. He received advanced painting training at Kayıhan Keskinok Studio between 2006 and 2011.

Pelioğlu, who has participated in countless workshops, group exhibitions, and art symposiums throughout his art life, has many solo exhibitions. The artist, who has won awards in painting competitions, has many works in national and international collections.
The artist currently continues his work in his own studio in Çankaya, Ankara.

Art Perspective;
In Pelioğlu Paintings, the surface, although it is preloaded with the socio-cultural thought of a certain past time, borrows its inner energy from the psycho-anarchist spirit of an uncertain future time. The ontology of society-individual, subject-object and past-future, time-space are handled with an allegorical nuance, and the aura, halimpsest, tristram and hippogram that emerge are far above an ordinary historical reading due to their depth. There is a utopian dystopia that the paintings create on the person, and this unique artistic paradox is always before us in Pelioğlu Paintings; two important historical tensions of classical painting such as “the separation of linguistic signs and plastic elements, the equivalence between resemblance and forward-driving” are reversed with a very skillful speech and a new paradigm is attempted; this is a brand new specific discourse and points to a fantastic new language that refers to an uncertain future time that no one knows yet.

Pelioğlu Paintings; Although it has the potential for all kinds of modern visual readings, it reveals gothic feelings and fairy-tale thoughts due to the archaic moves it carries, and although it is read as a visible “resemblance”, the inner voice that occurs reaches us as a new “putting forward”. Pelioğlu virtually knots the plastic elements “utopia” and “mythology” together with conceptual animations and does this with the power it receives from the “before” and the energy it receives from the “after” in the endless tones of gray under the witness of deep space, placeless place, and incalculable figures. This is to add a new dimension to the tension between the concrete and the abstract, the past and the future, “here and now”. This artistic parody can only be understood with Pelioğlu’s revolutionary personality, the consciousness that he is in search of creating a brand new fantastic world unique to himself, and a new language in which esoteric terms are produced.

Pelioğlu’s paintings feature epic textures, exuberant colors, mysterious images, deformed forms and finally magnificent faceless faces placed on top; Every touch, without exception, has its own unique allegory that extends to psychological, sociological and philosophical texts. The moment you stand in front of the painting, you realize that a sharp message has reached your brain, and you feel that in order to reach and make sense of this mysterious stimulus, you need to get away from the aesthetic harmony of the plastic on the surface and head towards the fantastic world of imaginary depths. In the next few seconds, you embark on a fantastic long journey in Pelioğlu's deep subconscious hinterland, where hundreds or even thousands of different places and heroes take place. In this short in actual terms, but spiritually endless journey of meaning, colors and textures, each of which meets with images that have different meanings, first appeal to the eye with unique plastic elements, then leave deep traces in the memory, taking the person on an almost fairy-tale journey towards the horizon in the sea of art.
