Ekin Deveci

Who is Ekin Deveci? (1980-Karaman)

She graduated from Selçuk University’s Department of Art Education in 2003. She completed her master’s degree in Art Education at the Selçuk University Institute of Social Sciences in 2007 and her doctorate in 2013. In 2010, she was appointed a lecturer in the Painting Department of Selçuk University’s Faculty of Fine Arts. In 2019, she received the title of Associate Professor and was appointed Assistant Lecturer in the Elementary Education Department of Kocaeli University’s Faculty of Fine Arts. To date, she has held 12 solo exhibitions and participated in numerous national and international group art exhibitions. She has won three awards, including the Honorable Mention Award in the Erciyes University National Painting Competition, the Special Jury Prize in the 3rd International Balaton Szalon Painting Competition, and the First Prize in the 5th International Balaton Szalon Painting Competition.

Art Perspective; 

Each representation formed in the visual system, based on the mind’s visualization of every object previously encountered in the outside world, constitutes the imago, or imagination. At birth, the individual’s idealized mental image shapes the imoga. After visualizing the objects they see in their environment, the artist then expresses their representations within their work with unique imogas. These systems are formed from traces of the artist’s soul, personality, and idealized mental images. This is where their complex structure stems from. Visual images, which circulate endlessly like tree branches, intertwine in each other.
Behind all visible phenomena lie structures that harbor a mystery. Unraveling these mysteries is not always possible for everyone. However, by understanding certain teachings and going through many stages, the mystery of what exists can be understood. At this point, it requires specializing in and mastering the existence of the phenomenon under consideration. In processes whose secrets are only known by the Creator, the internal structure of what is created emerges with its mysteries. As the paintings develop, the mysterious and intriguing visual structure and textures, with their mysteries known only to the artist, create an esoteric structure. Making the invisible visible requires the artist to use textures, connections, and colors in their works as tools to convey their hidden knowledge. The symbols used in the paintings also serve as representatives of this latent power.

Humans have always striven to establish a place for themselves in their environment. In doing so, they are sometimes constructive, sometimes destructive. They push the limits of mechanization while developing the technology they need. No matter how much destruction humans cause, nature finds a way to repair itself and reclaim what belongs to it. There can be no winner in the endless struggle between nature and mechanics. The battle between structures equipped with the latest technology and mechanics continues against nature’s most primitive state. In this struggle, which constantly repeats in the spatial realms of time, the spirits of the elements, living beings, and machines that represent nature become visible.
