Who is Devrim Demiral ? (1970-Ordu)
Born in Ordu in 1970, Devrim Demiral graduated from the Painting Department of the Faculty of Fine Arts at Mimar Sinan University. He completed his Master’s degree at the same university with a thesis on humor in painting and William Hogarth.
Between 2006 and 2010, he worked as a lecturer at Beykent University. In 2020, he taught at Beykoz University for a period. He served as President of the Cartoonists’ Association for two terms. He has showcased his work in a wide array of solo and group exhibitions, both nationally and internationally.
In his practice, Demiral explores the intricate dynamics between nature and humanity through a figurative lens, where irony serves as a pivotal conceptual tool. Rejecting the notion of nature as a mere “ready-made” object, he seeks to reconstruct it as an autonomous subject—a pursuit that defines his romantic sensibility.
His compositions are characterized by figures in a perpetual state of motion, action, and “becoming,” rendered with meticulous attention to detail. Through this romantic framework, he examines themes of the sea, maritime life, womanhood, and the tension between the individual and society. His work is particularly noted for its cohesive synthesis of neo-romantic form, distinctive style, and a nuanced palette.
The artist currently lives and works in Istanbul.
