The 19th edition of Contemporary Istanbul, which brings together galleries, artists and art lovers from all over the world in Istanbul, will meet art lovers on October 23.
Contemporary Istanbul Board Chairman Ali Güreli attended a press conference held at a hotel in Beyoğlu and provided information about the current status of the world contemporary art market.

Güreli stated that the sales values of art works have decreased but the art market is growing and said, "Online art sales are increasing. Online markets stand out as an area where everyone can access art. The progress of women artists in the market continues. It will grow slowly in the coming periods."

"CI is Turkey's leading soft power brand"

Drawing attention to the fact that the collaboration of galleries among themselves in the representation of artists expands the art market, Güreli made the following statements regarding the 2025 goals:

"Contemporary Istanbul is Turkey's leading soft power brand. Among the goals we need to achieve with our collaboration is for Istanbul to become a city of festivals. Istanbul needs to be repositioned as a contemporary art production center and art production areas need to be established. We also attach importance to the spread of contemporary art to Istanbul's public spaces. In addition to contemporary art, all creative art branches such as literature, cinema, theater, music and dance need to be highlighted as the soft power of our country."

Ali Güreli emphasized that the award ceremony they started at Art Istanbul in 2002-2004 will continue this year within the scope of Contemporary Istanbul, and stated that they will be giving awards in 5 categories in the field of contemporary art as the Contemporary Istanbul Foundation Awards.

Akbank Brand and Communications President Beril Alakoç and Contemporary Istanbul Board Vice President Rabia Bakıcı Güreli also provided information about the fair.
