The artist defines the exhibition titled “In the Shadow of Nature”, which will be open to art lovers between April 26 and May 24, as an intellectual space that questions the ecological relationship that humans establish not only with their surroundings but also with themselves, and seeks new ways to be in touch with nature while existing in the city.
About the Exhibition;
The modern city is both the stage and the reason for distancing from nature. This distance brings with it not only a physical but also a mental separation. In an effort to reestablish the bond between the individual in the city and nature; sometimes they create a forest in their mind, sometimes they take a breath in a greenery sprouting in front of a window, and sometimes they search for a lost memory in their dreams.
This narrative traces an imagination that is internalized with the relationship with nature, kneaded with losses and extinctions. It is not only a nostalgic search of the individual who resists forgetting his memory of nature, but also the construction of a new form of existence. Each visual, while expressing the need for shelter on the one hand, carries a silent rebellion against the lifestyles imposed by the system on the other.
Here, the city is not only a living space; it is also a stage of struggle and redefinition. Nature is no longer just trees, the sky, and the sounds of birds. Nature expands by including the nature of man; it takes shape in the city, in the body, in memory, and in imagination. In this context, rather than following the traces of nature, the exhibition offers witness to the moments when nature is reproduced in urban and individual layers.
Hakan Çapkan’s solo exhibition titled ‘’In the Shadow of Nature’’ can be viewed every day between April 26 and May 24 between 11:00-18:30 at Adana KUN Art Space.
