Çoban Ressam (Süleyman Şahin)
Süleyman Şahin (known as Shepherd Painter; born 14 April 1949, Sivrihisar, Eskişehir) is a Turkish landscape painter.
The artist was born on April 14, 1949 in Günyüzü, Sivrihisar, Eskişehir. Painter Süleyman Şahin, known as the “Shepherd Painter”, studied until the 4th grade of primary school and dropped out due to family reasons. Süleyman Şahin, who started working as a shepherd in Ankara to earn his living since he was a child, turned towards art when his interest and talent in painting was noticed. He was known as the “Shepherd Painter” in art circles because he depicted rural life in his landscape paintings and because he was a shepherd in the past.
The artist established the Painters Street in Bursa, where he settled in 1986, and had a share in the training of talented new painters there. In his paintings, he took as examples great painters such as Van Gogh, Edouard Manet, Claude Monet and Sisley. Shepherd Painter Süleyman Şahin has over 10,000 portraits depicting nature and rural life, most of which are in private collections and museums abroad. The artist is married and lives in Bursa and Ankara.
