Arkas Holding's sixth art center in Izmir, Arkas Sanat Göztepe, located in the historic Ayşe and Seniha Mayda Mansion, is home to timeless works of Turkish painting.
As the latest example of its significant contributions to society in the arts, Arkas Holding has opened Arkas Sanat Göztepe to art lovers. A selection of works by Turkish artists from the Arkas Collection will be permanently available for viewing at the center. Monreve Patisserie, located within the center, will also welcome visitors to Arkas Sanat Göztepe.
Speaking at a press conference held prior to the opening, Arkas Holding Chairman Lucien Arkas stated that the mansion, commissioned by Grand Vizier Kamil Pasha in the 19th century, has undergone extensive restoration, preserving its original architectural features. Arkas, noting that the number of art centers under Arkas Holding has reached six with the Ayşe and Seniha Mayda mansion, said, “About ten years ago, Ms. Ayşe Mayda, whom we spoke with at the Arkas Art Center in Alsancak, asked me to buy her house in Göztepe. We bought the house, and Ms. Ayşe continued to live there until her death. After her death, we decided to transform the house into an art center. Now, we are permanently exhibiting a selection by Ms. Müjde Unustası, from over two thousand works by Turkish painters in the Arkas collection, at the Ayşe and Seniha Mayda Mansion. Monreve Patisserie will also serve the center's visitors. Your existence doesn't have meaning just by standing there; sharing it with others makes it meaningful. I am someone who loves beauty and also wants to share it. I hope this center, where art training and events will be held, where our students can visit and gain the perspective offered by art, will be beneficial to Izmir and all people.” Monreve Group Chairwoman Merve Arkas said, “As Monreve Group, we are opening the second Monreve Patisserie at Arkas Art Centers. We will continue our vision of being guest- and experience-focused, with our commitment to the highest level of quality. Our efforts combining art and gastronomy will continue.”
Arkas Art Director Müjde Unustası said, “The Arkas Collection has been recognized as a collection focusing on Western art; however, it also includes very important works that represent cornerstones of Turkish painting history. The Tradition and Modernity exhibition, which opened recently at the Arkas Art Center in Alsancak, heralded Arkas Sanat Göztepe. Now, we are delighted to present this very special selection to art lovers. The fact that our opening is taking place on September 10th, Ayşe Mayda's birthday, makes this day even more meaningful.”
