The 44th Akbank Contemporary Artists Award Exhibition, themed "Threshold: Reconstructing Meaning in Artistic Production," has opened at the Elgiz Museum, showcasing the works of 23 young artists.

One of Turkey's longest-running events in the field of contemporary art, the Akbank Contemporary Artists Award Exhibition celebrates its 44th anniversary. Organized in collaboration with Akbank Art, Painting and Sculpture Museums Association, and the Elgiz Museum, the exhibition opened to the public on May 14th. This year, the exhibition, themed "Threshold: Reconstructing Meaning in Artistic Production," focuses on current areas of debate in contemporary art. Addressing the impact of grand language models, artificial intelligence, collective information networks, and digital transformation on human thought, the exhibition reopens the discussion on art's role in meaning production.

Curated by Zeynep Burçoğlu and Koray Tokdemir, the exhibition features works by 23 young artists selected by the jury. The exhibition provides a space for young artists' creative processes while bringing together contemporary forms of expression from different disciplines. Akbank Art Director Derya Bigalı stated that they prioritize making the works of young artists visible, adding that the award exhibition, which has been running for 44 years, creates a strong platform for young artists to engage in dialogue.

Zeynep Burçoğlu, one of the exhibition's curators, stated that the event creates an important archive and visibility space in the field of contemporary art, while Koray Tokdemir expressed that it is exciting to accompany young artists in their ways of understanding the world. This year, approximately 1728 artists from Turkey and abroad applied to the competition. The exhibition, featuring works by the 23 selected young artists, can be visited at the Elgiz Museum until July 31, 2026.
