Who is Pınar Atlı Danapınar? (1984-Karaman)Born in 1984 in Ermenek district of Karaman, Pınar Atlı Danapınar’s relationship with art developed at an early age as a natural result of growing up in a family of educators. The time spent in the teachers’ room during her kindergarten in Mardin, and watching her uncle Mahir paint at the Nusaybin Boarding Regional School, formed the first traces of her lasting connection with art.Danapınar completed her primary school education in a combined classroom in a mountain village in Zonguldak where her parents were teachers. She continued her middle and high school education in Kdz. Ereğli. During her middle school years, with the support of her art teacher Sevinç Yıldız Tanan, she won various awards, including six district, one provincial, and national first prizes, experiencing a significant moment that shaped the direction of her artistic journey.Kdz. After graduating from Ereğli Anatolian High School, she completed her undergraduate (2003–2007) and graduate (2007–2010) studies in Painting Education at Anadolu University Faculty of Education, under the guidance of her art teacher, Cemil R. Baykal. In 2008, she began her academic career as a research assistant in the Painting Department of the Fethi Toker Faculty of Fine Arts and Design at Karabük University in Safranbolu.Married since 2017, Danapınar is a mother of two children. The birth of her children created a defining transformation in both her life and artistic production. Her identity as a mother-artist deepened her approach to depicting children’s imagery, while motherhood itself became an independent subject in her work. In this process, Danapınar’s paintings evolved into a multi-layered narrative exploring childhood, care, the body, fragility, and emotion; reinterpreting the daily practices and inner experiences of motherhood with a modern figurative language. In 2018, the artist completed her doctorate in visual arts at Kocaeli University’s Institute of Social Sciences with a thesis titled “The Postmodern Image of the Child in Contemporary Turkish Art within the Context of Painting.” Since 2019, she has been working as an Assistant Professor in the newly established Graphic Design Department of the same university. Adopting a modern figurative language, Danapınar creates a multi-layered visual world through images of childhood, memory, caregiving labor, identity, and emotion in her canvas paintings, paper collages, and prints. To date, she has held three solo exhibitions, one in Greece, and participated in 20 national and 9 international group exhibitions.
