  Who is Damla Yılmaz? (2002-Denizli)The artist was born in Denizli, Turkey in 2002. She completed her primary and secondary education in the same city. She realized her interest in art at a young age. She received painting training from painter Kemal Yenidede in Denizli. She graduated with honors from Hakkı Dereköylü Fine Arts High School, which she entered in 2016. In 2020, she was accepted to the painting department of Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, where she continues her education in the studio of painter Ahmet Umur Deniz. In addition to engraving training in printmaking, she also received training in stained glass and fresco. The artist also continues her work in her own studio in Istanbul.Artistic Perspective:In my paintings, I mostly prefer to depict a subject or scene that I have created in my imagination, like a film scene. Therefore, my sources of inspiration come from different disciplines; music and films, in particular, are influential in my production process. Although I begin creating my paintings according to a specific plan, I allow my emotions to guide the painting as the process progresses.Even though each of my paintings doesn’t directly rely on a narrative, they aim to evoke a sense of story in the viewer. This sense of ambiguity and curiosity is one of the key aspects of my work. I sometimes sprinkle humorous touches into my creations. I sometimes include frightening figures in my paintings. These figures are a manifestation of the intense fear I feel from supernatural things. Creating a world under my control becomes a way of mocking or confronting these fears. I sometimes synthesize this world with my self-portraits. However, I find the relationship between my character and the images I produce ironic, and I draw sustenance from this contrast.
