Opening on June 9, 2026, and running until March 7, 2027, the “NHK Collection for Lidice” exhibition will be on display at the Lidice Art Collection Gallery. The Lidice Art Collection (LAC), operating under the Lidice Memorial in the Czech Republic, presents 65 works by artists from Turkish-speaking regions from the Nahit & Huma Kabakcı Collection (NHK Collection), managed by Turkish-British art professional and collection representative Huma Kabakcı. The exhibition holds special significance as it marks the first public sharing of these donated works, and also represents one of the most comprehensive contributions to the Lidice Art Collection in recent years. Focusing on artists from Turkish-speaking regions, the selection aims to broaden the LAC's international vision while establishing a multi-layered dialogue between different generations and geographies.

The NHK Collection for Lidice exhibition brings together artists from different generations and geographies, intersecting with Lidice's mission focused on solidarity and memory. Volkan Aslan questions fragmented forms of remembrance by transforming everyday objects into surreal constructs, while İpek Duben creates multi-layered narratives centered on identity, feminism, and migration; Işıl Eğrikavuk develops performative practices nourished by protest culture and the imagination of citizenship. Babi Badalov's visual poetry, which stretches the boundaries of language, makes the experience of displacement visible, while Sabina Şıxlinskaya focuses on the variable relationship between the individual and society. In this context, the exhibition embodies the Lidice Art Collection's approach centered on "solidarity, generosity, and memory."

Dr. [Name], Director of the Lidice Memorial Eduard Stehlík, the organizer of this donation, stated, “The Lidice Art Collection represents solidarity, generosity, and memory; it reflects the power of culture to transcend divisions. This exhibition brings the extraordinary donation from the NHK Collection directly to the public for the first time. We are honored to present this in a place like Lidice, which is associated with tragedy but has also witnessed a powerful human response demonstrating the strength and resilience of the human spirit.” Collection representative Huma Kabakcı emphasized the meaning and importance of the donation, saying, “This donation is both a personal and a collective gesture. It continues my late father's belief in art as a bridge that fosters empathy between generations and geographies. By including the works in the NHK Collection in public memory, I hope to enrich the institution and increase its international reach. The connection with Lidice developed naturally. I hope this donation will be the beginning of a long-term collaboration between Turkey, the Czech Republic, and beyond.”

The exhibition also features renowned artists from the region, creating a selection that expands the historical and geographical layers of the collection. Among these names are Ara Güler, the legendary photojournalist known as the "Eye of Istanbul"; Ferruh Başağa, a significant representative of Turkish modernism; Alexander Kosolapov, known for his sharp critique of ideology and consumer culture with his work "Lenin Coca-Cola"; and František Burant, a prominent figure in the Czech art scene. These artists reinforce the donation's structure, which not only represents a regional accumulation but also makes visible an interdisciplinary and intergenerational art dialogue.

"This exhibition aligns with our goal of creating a public collection that promotes solidarity as a tool for positive change. The NHK donation creates new research and exhibition opportunities between Central Europe and Turkish-speaking cultural communities," says Miloslav Vorlíček, Head of the Lidice Art Collection, outlining the institutional framework of this approach.

The Prague Academy of Art, Architecture and Design (UMPRUM) is actively involved in developing the exhibition's visual identity. The design, selected through a competition among students within the Typography Program led by Filip Kraus, will form the basis of visual communication throughout the exhibition. This collaboration encourages young designers to participate directly in the production processes, while also strengthening the exhibition's connection with the contemporary design field.
