The Suna and İnan Kıraç Foundation Pera Museum, continuing to welcome visitors to the “On the Edge of the Water: The Life and Art of Halil Pasha” exhibition, is organizing a special “On the Edge of the Water Exhibition Tour” guided by the exhibition's curator, Dr. Özlem İnay Erten. The tour, taking place on Thursday, May 14th at 6:30 PM, offers visitors the opportunity to experience the exhibition from a curatorial perspective.
During the tour, visitors will explore Halil Pasha's life and artistic production through Erten's explanations. The exhibition offers an opportunity to closely examine the evolving theme, to deeply evaluate the artist's understanding of painting and his production processes, and to approach the narrative presented by the exhibition from a different perspective.
A painter in the footsteps of light, the shore, and time;
Focusing on Halil Pasha, who played a significant role in the transformation of painting from the Ottoman Empire to the Republic, the exhibition comprehensively examines the work of an artist with a military background who combined academic discipline with Impressionist sensibility. Halil Pasha, who stands out as one of the pioneers of the open-air painting tradition in Turkey, is re-evaluated through his understanding of light and color, his mastery of landscape and portrait painting, and the visual language he developed in different geographies.
The exhibition brings together the artist's journey of production, from the shores of the Bosphorus in Istanbul to the Paris Salon exhibitions and the light of Cairo; it deepens this narrative with documentary content consisting of archival documents, press releases, letters, photographs, and the artist's personal belongings. "On the Shore of the Water" examines Halil Pasha's artistic legacy not only through a historical figure but also as a space for reflection that opens up to the formation process of modern Turkish painting. It is taking.
