The Contemporary Arts Gallery, affiliated with the Odunpazarı Municipality, presented the “Lexicon” exhibition, featuring works by the Kitschen Contemporary Art Initiative, to art lovers as its 37th exhibition.
The Odunpazarı Municipality continues to bring art together with the historical and cultural fabric of the city. The Contemporary Arts Gallery, affiliated with the municipality, is hosting the “Lexicon” exhibition, showcasing the works of the Kitschen Contemporary Art Initiative, as its 37th exhibition.
The opening of the exhibition was held at the Contemporary Arts Gallery with a large turnout. Odunpazarı Mayor Kazım Kurt, who was abroad and unable to attend, was represented by Odunpazarı Municipality Deputy Mayor Figen Kahya. Also present at the opening were CHP Eskişehir Member of Parliament Jale Nur Süllü, consultant professors Rıdvan Çoşkun and Hayri Esmer, artists Fırat Engin, Ekin Kılıç Ezer and Elif Varol Ergen, and numerous art lovers.
“We will continue to support cultural and artistic life”
Speaking at the opening, Odunpazarı Municipality Deputy Mayor Figen Kahya conveyed the greetings of Mayor Kazım Kurt and thanked the participants. Kahya stated that the exhibition, realized with the contributions of consultant professors Rıdvan Çoşkun and Hayri Esmer, is an important part of Odunpazarı Municipality's vision to support contemporary art. Emphasizing that the municipality will continue to support cultural and artistic life without any profit expectation, Kahya said that they aim to bring the transformative power of art to all segments of society. Thanking the artists who contributed to the exhibition, Kahya expressed her hope that such works would create the same awareness in different cities.
Artists Discuss “Lexicon”
Artists Fırat Engin, Ekin Kılıç Ezer, and Elif Varol Ergen, whose works are featured in the exhibition, also shared their assessments of the exhibition's conceptual framework at the opening. Ekin Kılıç Ezer stated that the concept of “Lexicon” is a term that defines the artists' unique expressive languages, and that the exhibition is the product of a special production process that brings together the individual artistic languages of the collective's core members. Fırat Engin explained that the Kitschen Contemporary Art Initiative was founded in 2010 by three academics and that “Lexicon” is their first exhibition outside of Ankara. Elif Varol Ergen also expressed that the fact that the exhibition was hosted by the Odunpazarı Municipality was very valuable to them.
The “Lexicon” exhibition brings together the collective production practice of artists Fırat Engin, Ekin Kılıç Ezer, and Elif Varol Ergen. The exhibition presents a multi-layered narrative where meaning is not fixed; words, images, and symbols transform over time. Drawing inspiration from everyday life, political discourse, and collective memory, the works invite the viewer to question the constancy of meaning. For the Kitschen Contemporary Art Initiative, language is not merely a means of communication; it is also considered a field of ideological and cultural struggle.
Prepared with the contributions of advisors Rıdvan Çoşkun and Hayri Esmer, the exhibition aims to keep a dictionary not only of words but also of space and time in Odunpazarı, one of Eskişehir's culturally rich districts.
The exhibition will be open to visitors until March 2nd.
The "Lexicon" exhibition can be visited daily between 10:00 and 18:00 at the Odunpazarı Municipality Contemporary Arts Gallery until March 2nd.
