The Türkiye İş Bankası Painting and Sculpture Museum's art history learning programs continue with the 'Winter Conferences'. The conferences will begin on January 24th and last for six weeks.
The conferences, which will begin on Saturday, January 24th and last for six weeks, will shed light on the journey of art in these lands from the Seljuk and Eastern Roman periods to the Ottomans, from the Tanzimat to the Republic, with rich presentations by expert art historians.
In the first session titled "Anatolian Heritage," Dr. Nazlı Pektaş will discuss the unique artistic heritage of the Seljuks, one of the greatest Turkish-Islamic states, in Anatolia, ranging from architecture to handicrafts. In the second session, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Koray Durak will examine the strong artistic tradition of the Eastern Roman Empire. Prof. Dr. Tarkan Okçuoğlu will focus on the style, technique, and visual world of miniature art in the Ottoman Empire. Seza Sinanlar Uslu will discuss the profound transformation of Turkish painting during the Westernization process from the Tanzimat era to the Republic; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ayşe Köksal will open a discussion on the development process of modern Turkish art, which sought a new identity in the early years of the Republic. In the final session, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Seda Yavuz will examine contemporary art practices, conceptual frameworks, and their place in the global context.
The six-week program, led by distinguished art history experts, will be held at BlackBox on Saturdays or Sundays between 11:00 and 13:00. Art lovers can attend each event individually. Those who attend all sessions will receive a certificate at the end of the program.
