The Altıntaş–Momayez Exhibition met with art lovers at Anadolu University...
Anadolu University hosted the “Altıntaş–Momayez, Two Friends–Two Masters Poster Exhibition,” organized within the scope of the 2025 Turkey-Iran Culture Year. The opening of the exhibition, held at the Anadolu University Contemporary Arts Museum, was attended by Anadolu University Rector Prof. Dr. Yusuf Adıgüzel, Iranian Cultural Attaché Dr. Seyed Ghasem Nazemi, Eskişehir Municipality Council Member Hasan Ünal, Exhibition Curator Prof. Tevfik Fikret Uçar, International Relations Coordinator Lecturer Dr. Zekiye Doğan, as well as members of the senate and numerous guests. The event, which began with performances by Azerbaijani opera singer Fidan Huseynova, continued with a short video presentation by curator Prof. Tevfik Fikret Uçar explaining the process of creating the exhibition and Altıntaş and Momayez's contributions to graphic art.
Rector Adıgüzel: “The Türkiye-Iran Culture Year that we are celebrating today is a symbolic reminder of this partnership.”
Anadolu University Rector Prof. Dr. In his speech, Yusuf Adıgüzel drew attention to the deep-rooted cultural interaction between Turkey and Iran, stating: “Today’s exhibition is a continuation of the ‘Two Friends, Two Masters’ meeting organized within the framework of the 2015 Turkey-Iran Culture Year. The works of these two master artists strongly convey the cultural closeness between Turkey and Iran. These two countries have a history of neighborliness spanning over a thousand years. Throughout history, a common cultural space has been formed; literature, art, architecture, and social life have mutually influenced each other. The Turkey-Iran Culture Year that we are celebrating today is a symbolic reminder of this partnership. One of the most important examples of this cultural interaction is Rumi writing the Masnavi in Persian, while Yunus Emre interpreted the same Sufi tradition in the simplest form of Turkish. Fuzuli’s Layla and Majnun also draws from the classical narratives of Iranian literature. From architecture to miniatures, a shared aesthetic understanding that has lasted for centuries between the two countries is evident.”
Rector Adıgüzel, referring to Anadolu University's relations with Iran, stated, “In the 2024-2025 academic year, 114 Iranian students are studying at our university; approximately 100 Iranian students have graduated to date. Our academic relations with universities in Iran are strengthening day by day, and we currently have many active cooperation agreements. These offer significant opportunities for cultural and academic interaction. We believe in the unifying power of art and culture. This exhibition holds great significance in terms of carrying the common bonds from the past to the present and the future. I wish for the enduring friendship between Turkey and Iran.”
Iranian Undersecretary of Culture Dr. Nazemi: “A graphic artist must first create their own awareness.”
Iranian Undersecretary of Culture Dr. Seyed Ghasem Nazemi, drawing attention to the importance of graphic art for societies, said: “You can import many things from elsewhere, but you cannot import authenticity and originality. The history and heritage of every nation are hidden in its literature and the works produced by its artists. Societies need graphic art. A graphic artist must first create their own awareness. Momayez and Altıntaş are artists who have created this awareness, and we are commemorating them here today. I would like to thank the International Relations Coordination Office and Lecturer Dr. Zekiye Doğan for inviting and hosting us at this valuable event that strengthens Turkish-Iranian friendship.”
Prof. Uçar: “Turkey and Iran are two friendly and brotherly countries that speak two different languages but have one heart.”
The exhibition's curator, Prof. Tevfik Fikret Uçar, commented on the importance of the organization for the Faculty of Fine Arts, stating: “Anadolu University is celebrating the 2025 Turkey-Iran cultural year with enthusiasm and energy in an important way.” It has become a place. We were here again at the last exhibition. In the Calligraphy and Typography Event, which the Faculty of Fine Arts, Graphic Arts Department has been holding continuously for 17 years, two of our three international guests were Iranian. Our friends Einoddin Sadeghzadeh and Mohsen Moosavi, along with our students, produced wonderful works; they gave new forms to the illuminating words of Yunus. The ancient call of Mevlana, a shared value of Turkish and Iranian cultures, still illuminates our path today: ‘It is better to be in the same heart than to speak the same language.’ How true. Although Turkey and Iran speak different languages, their hearts are one; two neighbors, two friends, two brothers. This exhibition is a meeting organized for the embrace of two cultures, specifically focusing on these two masters. As an artist who had the chance to befriend both masters, I bow respectfully before their cherished memories. I would like to conclude with a saying often repeated in Iran: Del be del râh dârad. There is a path from heart to heart. With the hope that our unity of hearts will continue. Be omid-e didâr.”
Following the exhibition opening, participants toured the exhibition, examining the artworks. The “Altıntaş–Momayez, Two Friends–Two Masters Poster Exhibition” can be visited at the Anadolu University Contemporary Arts Museum until Friday, December 19th.
