The "Layers of the Collection" art exhibition opened at Galeri Beylikdüzü, a project brought to the district by the Beylikdüzü Municipality and the West Istanbul Education, Culture, and Arts Foundation. The exhibition, which was attended by Beylikdüzü Deputy Mayor Önder Serkan Çebi, Attorney Süleyman Çelebi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the West Istanbul Foundation, Beylikdüzü Municipal Council Member Ali Rıza Der, and Kamuran Selin Bozkurt, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Art for Good Association, was met with considerable interest from art lovers. The exhibition, drawn from the ten-year collection of the Art for Good Association, highlights the multidimensional nature of Turkey's contemporary art production while also offering a comprehensive exploration of the layers of production, relationships, and meaning within art.
Çelebi: We aim to provide a new art space for all of Istanbul
Speaking at the exhibition opening, Süleyman Çelebi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Western Istanbul Foundation, said, “Our foundation's primary goal is to present high-quality examples of cultural and artistic work and to promote the cultural and artistic values of Western Istanbul, both in our country and globally, by creating a strong platform in Istanbul. By hosting various exhibitions throughout the year, supporting young artists, and organizing workshop programs in collaboration with the Beylikdüzü Municipality, we aim to provide a new art space not only in Beylikdüzü but throughout Istanbul.” Bozkurt: Art multiplies when shared.
"Over the past ten years, we have accumulated not only the works but also the connections we have established with artists, the emotions we have shared with audiences, and the collaborations we have built with our stakeholders," said Kamuran Selin Bozkurt, President of the Art for Good Association. She continued, "This exhibition, titled 'Layers of the Collection,' reminds us that art is not just an individual form of expression, but also a collective process, a shared space for production and sharing. We believe that art multiplies when shared, and the new paths we open for our young artists bring new perspectives to our audiences and new cultural riches to our cities." Der: Courage, empathy, and hope lie at every level.
Beylikdüzü Municipal Council Member Ali Rıza Der stated that art heals the human spirit and transforms society. He said, “When we talk about art for good, we mean not just creating beautiful things, but sharing what is meaningful, healing a wound, and hearing a voice. In this exhibition, our artists, drawing from diverse disciplines and diverse emotions, contribute to a common cause: goodness, compassion, and solidarity. Courage, empathy, and hope lie at every level. In the chaos of the world we live in, perhaps these layers can become a better, more just, and more beautiful world through art as a form of resistance.”
76 works by 64 artists
Curated by Hicran Aksöz, the exhibition features 76 works by 64 artists, drawn from various cities in Anatolia and encompassing intergenerational dialogue. The exhibition, notable for its diversity and multilayered structure, offers a comprehensive overview of Turkey's contemporary art production. Furthermore, this selection goes beyond simply compiling works; it aims to offer a comprehensive exploration of art's layers of production, relationships, and meaning. The exhibition, which has attracted considerable public interest, will be open to art lovers until mid-November.
