Galeri Artist Istanbul will present the latest works of Feride Binicioğlu, a remarkable figure in contemporary Turkish painting, to art lovers from September 4–October 4, 2025. This special selection from the artist reveals her artistic journey and the style shaped by diverse geographies.

The exhibition, which brings together works by Feride Binicioğlu, a prominent figure in contemporary Turkish painting, produced in different periods but inspired by the same aesthetic vein, has opened at Galeri Artist. In the works, which will be on display from September 4–October 2, 2025, Binicioğlu's canvases create a flow that draws the viewer in with their powerful brushstrokes, layered use of color, and rhythmic compositions.

The paintings in the exhibition combine the fluidity of nature, the inner world of humanity, and the traces left by social events. The artist's aesthetic sensitivity, honed during her time in Japan, is particularly evident in her compositions that utilize movement as a means of expression. Appearing chaotic surfaces, upon closer inspection, reveal a balanced order and profound rhythm. This invites the viewer not only to a visual experience but also to a meditative journey.

The exhibition also reveals the diversity of the artist's production: some works stand out with sharp contrasts and intense dynamism, while others exhibit a more serene and poetic approach. In this respect, it is a synthesis of the artist's forms of expression developed over the years. The works produced during the pandemic, in particular, reveal the transformation of individual loneliness and collective anxieties into pictorial language.

Binicioğlu's works invite the viewer not only to gaze at the surface but also to focus on the emotion hidden in the spaces between rhythms, the clashes of colors, and the flow of lines. Therefore, while the exhibition has the character of a retrospective, it can also be interpreted as a vivid demonstration of the artist's current creativity.

About the Artist

Born in Adana in 1963, Feride Binicioğlu is of Circassian-Kabardian descent. The artist, who has always used her cultural identity and sense of belonging as nourishing sources in her art, has succeeded in blending her visual language with universal aesthetic approaches.

The training she received in the Painting Department of Mimar Sinan University's Faculty of Fine Arts, in the studio of Adnan Çoker, a pioneer of Turkish painting, instilled in Binicioğlu both a disciplined technique and a strong approach to abstraction in her art. Following her graduation in 1986, the artist entered academic life and worked for a time at the Faculty of Fine Arts at Istanbul University.

Binicioğlu, who has played an active role in her artistic career in diverse regions, including Turkey, Japan, Russia, Austria, and the United States, has held five solo exhibitions and participated three times as a guest artist in the ART-EX-TOYAMA exhibitions in Japan. She has also represented Turkish contemporary art in international exhibitions ranging from New York to Vienna, and from St. Petersburg to Tokyo.

Her works are held in museum and private collections in Japan, as well as in the Istanbul Painting and Sculpture Museum. This demonstrates that his art is valued not only nationally but also internationally.

Binicioğlu's style is largely shaped by abstract expressionism. His paintings are not merely visual surfaces; they are also expressions of a rhythmic, dynamic, and meditative flow. Combining the "living movement" approach found in Japanese and Chinese art with his own cultural heritage, the artist's works simultaneously embody chaos and balance, spontaneous and controlled expression. In this respect, his paintings offer the viewer both a powerful emotional intensity and an aesthetic tranquility.

Artistic Approach

Feride Binicioğlu's artistic approach is not limited to simply colors transferred onto a painting; her works are the expression of a way of thinking and feeling. For Binicioğlu, painting stands out as a space that makes visible the dynamics of life and the multilayered rhythm of existence.

The artist focuses particularly on the use of movement as an aesthetic language in her work. At the root of this orientation lies the aesthetics of "living movement," a concept important in Japanese and Chinese art. Elements such as the cyclical nature of nature, the flow of water, the shifting power of the wind, or the dynamism of crowds are transformed into an abstract language in Binicioğlu's canvases through rhythmic brushstrokes.

The dense layers in her paintings are constructed through both spontaneous gestures and controlled color choices. This seemingly contradictory approach gives depth and richness to the artist's works: at first glance, the viewer encounters a chaotic surface, but upon closer inspection, a balanced order and poetic unity are discerned.

Binicioğlu's art evokes a simultaneous emotional intensity and meditative serenity. While some works are characterized by explosive energy and contrasts, others are characterized by a serene flow and inner peace. This diversity reflects the artist's desire to express diverse aspects of life through the same artistic language.

Nature and humanity are always primary sources of inspiration in the artist's work. The works he produced during the pandemic, in particular, reveal the transformation of individual loneliness and collective anxieties into an abstract language. Thus, Binicioğlu's works become not only an individual aesthetic experience but also a form of expression that touches upon collective memory.

His art invites the viewer not only to a visual experience but also to a flow of emotion and thought. In the rhythm of brushstrokes, the clash of colors, and the layered structure of surfaces, there is a call to the essence of life.

The exhibition, which will be open from September 4 to October 4, 2025, can be visited Monday to Saturday from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm.
