The ‘Masters of the Pen Painting Exhibition’ consisting of paintings by high school students was opened for viewing in the Dara Ancient City in the Artuklu district of Mardin. The songs sung in 5 languages at the opening of the exhibition attracted attention.
The Dara Ancient City in the Artuklu district, which was a settlement in the past and was built as a military garrison by Emperor Anastasios in 507, is among the places visited by visitors with the ruins of churches, palaces, bazaars, dungeons, armories and dams unearthed during excavations. Kızıltepe Yenikent Anatolian High School opened the ‘Masters of the Pen Painting Exhibition’ in the Dara Ancient City, which is 30 kilometers from the city center.
The opening of the exhibition, which included paintings drawn by 250 students from 16 schools, was attended by; Kızıltepe District Governor Abdullah Şahin, Culture and Tourism Provincial Director Ayhan Gök, Kızıltepe District National Education Director Abdulkadir Gümüş, institution managers, branch managers, teachers and students attended. Before the opening, the school's music team sang songs in Turkish, Kurdish, Arabic, French and Syriac. The musical recital attracted attention from the audience. After the opening ribbon was cut, protocol members examined the pictures one by one.
District National Education Director Abdulkadir Gümüş stated that there were 55 works prepared by students in the exhibition and said, "The place we are currently in is the Dara Ancient City of Mardin Artuklu district. As the Kızıltepe District Education Directorate; our Kızıltepe Yenikent Anatolian High School students made works telling the history of Mardin for 1 year. 55 paintings made by the school were brought to Dara Ancient City and exhibited openly to the public.
Our aim is to draw attention to these works in Dara, which contains historical places, and to indicate that Dara is the most visited place in our province. Approximately 250 students from 16 schools, our teachers and art lovers took part in the exhibition. The paintings include paintings such as Kasımiye and Zinciriye madrasahs, grand mosques, which are accepted as historical places-works in Mardin and the districts."
Beyzanur Tan, one of the students, said that she drew the Mor Yuhanna Church and was happy that her first painting in visual arts was included in the exhibition. High school senior Çaçane Tuncer said they had been waiting for the exhibition for a long time, thanked their teachers for giving them this opportunity and were proud.
