
Who was Veysel Erüstün? (1910 Sivas – 1987 Istanbul)
His Life:
Veysel Erüstün was born in Sivas in 1910. He graduated from Adana Teacher Training School in 1927, then turned to art education, studying at the Painting and Crafts Department of Ankara Gazi Education Institute and graduating in 1935. He began his professional life as a teacher; after teaching in various cities such as Amasya and Bursa, he served as a primary education inspector. From 1940 onwards, he taught painting at Gazi Education Institute for many years, continuing in this role until 1974. In 1939, he was sent to Germany with a scholarship from the Ministry of National Education, but due to World War II, he was forced to return to Turkey before completing his education. Throughout his artistic life, Erüstün pursued both production and education activities, also working on engraving and original printmaking techniques. In 1969, he received a degree from the University of California under Prof. He received training in engraving techniques from Paul A. Lingren. The artist continued his production in important art environments such as the Süleyman Saim Tekcan workshop and the Çamlıca Art House, and supported young artists. He passed away in Istanbul in 1987.
