Who is Fatih Balcı? (1966-Aydın)

Born in Aydın in 1966, Fatih Balcı is an artist and academic living in Çanakkale. He completed his undergraduate education in 1989 at the Buca Faculty of Education, Department of Art Education. He completed his master’s degree at the Marmara University Institute of Educational Sciences with his thesis titled “The Relationship between Knowledge and Art” and his doctorate at the same institute with his thesis titled “The Reflection of Photography as a Reality in Itself on the Art of Painting”.

He has been working as an Associate Professor in the Department of Art Education at the Faculty of Education of Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University since 2003. He has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions, including biennials and curated projects, both nationally and internationally.

Art Perspective;
Fatih Balcı’s artistic practice has been shaped by the creative dialogue between the conceptual depth of contemporary art and the intuitive, emotional power of traditional painting. According to him, art is not just a form of expression, but a multi-layered way of understanding and relating to the world.
While his contemporary productions are determined by analytical thinking, philosophical inquiry and interdisciplinary methods, his paintings are characterized by poetic evocations, sensory experiences and intuition-oriented approaches.
According to Balcı, painting is not a conscious analysis, but a pursuit of the hidden textures and unseen meanings of the world. The material itself often becomes a guide and shapes the direction of the work at that moment. Each piece traces a coincidence, an instinct or an indescribable glow.
This approach also expresses the artist’s desire to offer a visual response to the divided nature of modern humanity – between reason and emotion, thought and intuition. The conceptual intensity of his contemporary works finds balance in his traditional paintings and builds a bridge between the intellectual and emotional aspects of human existence. The coexistence and complementarity of both aspects brings unity and depth to his artistic production.
