Who is Fadime Yücel? (1977-Yozgat)

She received her primary, secondary, and high school education in the Boğazlıyan district of Yozgat. She graduated from the Department of Art Education at Niğde University in 1999. She began teaching in Küçükçekmece, Istanbul, the same year. She currently teaches Visual Arts at Orhan Cemal Fersoy Anatolian High School. Her works generally focus on figures, emotions, and real-life experiences. She features disadvantaged children and the profiles of women in everyday life. She continues her work in her personal studio in Küçükçekmece.

For her, life is a journey, and all the emotions, moments, and events we experience along this journey are part of that story. All that remains is to bring them to a visible reality. In other words, to speak with eyes and colors.

Art Perspective:
While we believe life consists of only a “moment,” it is actually a journey, and everything we encounter along the way is what we call life. Of course, stories are shaped by where the sun first rose on you and where you began to cry out for existence. Sometimes in cotton, sometimes in thorns, you journey as long as you breathe. You live life through what you can see or what you ignore.

You could say that my works focus on reflecting social awareness. Sometimes small yet great women molded by traditions, sometimes innocent children suffering the consequences of the brutal effects of political elements, sometimes social stances that have changed from past to present and replaced by other concepts… I explore concepts where our human perceptions change daily, where the abnormal becomes normal. I reflect the traces of transformation in the deep lines on Şirif’s face, reflecting the hand-holding of our old albums, welcoming the afterlife into our shared memories. I want to know “Hatice,” who sells handkerchiefs at the traffic lights; in her wide, olive eyes. They say the house you were born in is your destiny; I see how those who stand against their fate are reborn, burning and burning.

I’m on my way…
And I have stories of my journey that I want to share with you. I have companions; shadows you walk past, trying to set the sun despite the thorns, saying “Come on, one more step” to hope while their nails bleed. My duty is to paint images.
