Who is Edip Hakkı Köseoğlu? (1904-1990)
He was born in Istanbul in 1904. He graduated from the Istanbul State Academy of Fine Arts, İbrahim Çallı workshop in 1927. He worked in the workshop of Andre Lhote in Paris in 1932.
In the same year, he started working as an assistant at the Istanbul State Academy of Fine Arts and became a member of the Independent Painters Society. In 1940, he was sent to Anatolian studies by the Community Centers Headquarters. He painted Seyhan and Toros landscapes.
He married Münevver Köseoğlu in 1948. He retired from Istanbul State Academy of Fine Arts in 1968. He died in Istanbul in 1990. The artist’s works are in private collections in Türkiye, America, France and Sweden.
Artistic Perspective
In his works, different sociological sections of city life such as bullies, bargaining scenes at brothel doors, crazy characters, as well as famous buffalo compositions and the serenity of the rural atmosphere can be observed. He is known for his portraits of a number of political and cultural figures, especially those of his wife.
