The "Contemporary Russian Painters Exhibition," organized with the contributions of the Russian House in Ankara and in cooperation with *Cumhuriyet* newspaper, opened to art lovers yesterday at the Cumhuriyet Cultural Center Art Gallery. The opening was attended by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Aleksandr Sotnichenko, Minister-Counsellor of the Embassy of the Russian Federation; *Cumhuriyet* columnist Işık Kansu; *Cumhuriyet* Ankara Representative Sertaç Eş; ATIS Fair Organization President Bilgin Aygül; former Bartın Governor İsa Küçük; and art enthusiasts. Speaking at the event, Sotnichenko said, "We have launched many seasons at *Cumhuriyet* newspaper. I hope this cooperation will continue. This hall is not very large, but it has a very warm atmosphere."
Our columnist Işık Kansu remarked, "As Mr. Aleksandr noted, it is not a vast hall, but it is a very warm and functional space. Mr. Aleksandr has truly carried out invaluable work in fostering closer ties and developing cultural relations between our two fraternal nations. Furthermore, books on contemporary Russian literature had not been published in Turkey for quite some time. We proposed, 'With your support, let us publish a book of contemporary Russian short stories under the *Cumhuriyet* Books imprint.' He kindly accepted, and that book is set to be published."
The exhibition will remain open to visitors until September 30.
